On August 21, 2018, the Board approved the Transportation Surtax Interlocal Agreement (ILA). To be effective, the ILA must, by September 30, 2018, be approved by municipalities representing more than 50% of the County’s population and by the Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization (“MPO”). The MPO has scheduled consideration of the ILA at its next meeting, which is on September 13, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. This conflicts with the commencement time of the next County Commission meeting. Because five County Commissioners are members of the MPO, and should be present for the MPO’s consideration of the ILA, a quorum might not be available to start the September 13 County Commission meeting until substantially after 10:00 a.m.
Section 18.3a of the Rules of Procedure provides that the Commission meeting schedule may be amended by majority vote.
Staff was initially directed to publish notice of the September 13, 2018, public hearings for 10:00 a.m. The notices have been revised to reflect that the public hearings will occur at 1:00 p.m.
The County Attorney recommends approval of this item.
