Broward County Commission Regular Meeting

MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution No. 2018-339 directing the County Administrator to publish Notice of a Public Hearing to be held on September 13, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., to consider enactment of an Ordinance adopting a proposed amendment to the Broward County Land Use Plan text (PCT 18-4), as an amendment to the Broward County Comprehensive Plan, the substance of which is as follows:

AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, ADOPTING AN AMENDMENT TO THE BROWARD COUNTY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN; AMENDING THE BROWARD COUNTY LAND USE PLAN TEXT REGARDING FRACKING; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

ACTION:  (T-10:33 AM)  Approved.
 
VOTE: 9-0.

It is necessary to schedule a Public Hearing of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners to be held subsequent to receipt of a recommendation from the Broward County Planning Council prior to adoption of an amendment to the Broward County Comprehensive Plan.

The Resolution directs the County Administrator to set a Public Hearing for September 13, 2018, to consider adoption of proposed Broward County Land Use Plan text amendment PCT 18-4, which is an amendment to the Broward County Land Use Plan.

April 24, 2018 - The County Commission approved transmittal of proposed Broward County Land Use Plan text amendment PCT 18-4 to designated State review agencies.

The Planning Council, as the Local Planning Agency (LPA) responsible for the Broward County Land Use Plan, considered the following proposed amendment, PCT 18-4, at its March 22, 2018, public hearing and recommended approval (Vote of the Planning Council; Unanimous: 18-0; Blackwelder, Blattner, Breslau, Brunson, Castillo, DiGiorgio, Ganz, Gomez, Good, Graham, Grosso, Moraitis, Rosenof, Rosenzweig, Ryan, Udine, Williams and Stermer) and also recommended approval at its June 28, 2018, public hearing (Vote of the Planning Council; Unanimous: 13-0; Blackwelder, Blattner, Breslau, Brunson, DiGiorgio, Ganz, Gomez, Good, Graham, Grosso, Rich, Williams and Stermer)

AMENDMENT PCT 18-4
Amendment to the Broward County Land Use Plan text regarding Policy 2.9.3 - Broward County continues to oppose and prohibit in any land use category the use of hydraulic fracturing, acid fracturing, and any form of extreme well stimulation for the purposes of resource extraction.

Further, if the County Commission sets the Public Hearing, the full amendment report and associated attachments will be included as exhibits to the public hearing item.
