THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND GROWTH MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING AND PERMITTING DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
This action supports the Board's value of encouraging investments in renewable energy, sustainable practices and environmental protection: Goal 1: Seek funding for, implement policies and pursue projects promoting the use of alternative energy, resource conservation, sustainable practices and environmental protection. Resource conservation and environmental protection is achieved by funding a tree planting/giveaway project.
The City of Wilton Manors (City) has submitted a request for funding from the Broward County Tree Preservation Trust Fund for the purchase and installation of 31 trees at the City Public Works Facility, the purchase and installation of 31 street trees, and the purchase of 300 trees for a tree giveaway held by the City. The City will provide future maintenance of the Public Works and street trees. The Tree Preservation Trust Fund currently contains approximately $92,849 collected from contributions in lieu of tree replacement for Tree Removal Licenses issued within the City of Wilton Manors. These funds are intended for use within the City.
The Tree Preservation Trust Fund Committee has reviewed and approved this request. Funds will be paid to the City on a reimbursement basis pursuant to the attached agreement (Exhibit 2). The agreement has been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney. |
