Requested Action
MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution No. 2018-276 of the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida, accepting a donation from Friends of Broward County Animal Care and Adoption, a 501(c)3 corporation located in West Palm Beach, Florida, of in-kind equipment comprised of various medical non-consumables valued at $79,540 for the purpose of diagnosing and treating sick, injured, and medically needy animals at the shelter; authorizing the County Administrator to take all administrative and budgetary actions required to implement same; providing for severability and an effective date.

ACTION:  (T-10:24 AM)  Approved.
 
VOTE: 7-0.  Commissioners LaMarca and Ryan were not present.
Why Action is Necessary
Broward County Administrative Code Section 18.63 states that donations to the County valued at $10,000 or more shall be accepted by a Resolution of the Board of County Commissioners.

Authorizes the Animal Care and Adoption Division to accept an in-kind donation valued at $79,540.

Summary Explanation/Background
THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND GROWTH MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE ANIMAL CARE AND ADOPTION DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

This item furthers the Commission's Goal to: "[C]onsistently deliver responsive, efficient, quality services to the public." Additionally this item furthers the Division's goal to: Implement life-saving programs that will increase live outcomes for shelter animals; promote responsible pet ownership, provide community outreach, engagement and awareness of Division services; and promote sterilization by providing spay/neuter resources wherever they are needed, that will help decrease the number of animals entering the shelter.

The Animal Care and Adoption Division has received a generous donation of in-kind medical equipment from Friends of Broward County Animal Care and Adoption Division, valued at $79,540. The various equipment will be used to diagnose and treat sick, injured, and medically needy animals at the shelter, in support of the No Kill Community focus of the Animal Care and Adoption Division.
