MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution No. 2018-270, the title of which is as follows: (Commissioner Udine)
 
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, CONDEMNING VALVE CORPORATION'S LAUNCH OF A VIDEO GAME THAT SIMULATES MASS SCHOOL SHOOTINGS AKIN TO THE FEBRUARY 14, 2018, MASS SHOOTING AT MARJORY STONEMAN DOUGLAS HIGH SCHOOL IN PARKLAND, FLORIDA; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

Formal Board approval is necessary for the adoption of a Resolution.

Enables the adoption of the above Resolution.

On June 6, 2018, Valve Corporation, a video game development and digital distribution company, intended to launch a video game entitled "Active Shooter" on its digital distribution platform. The video game would have enabled users to simulate mass school shootings akin to the February 14, 2018, mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where a lone gunman killed 17 students and faculty. Valve Corporation has now decided to remove the game from its digital distribution platform.
 
Through this Resolution, the Board condemns and admonishes Valve Corporation for its originally intended launch of the "Active Shooter" video game and its insensitivity in connection with the loss of life on February 14, 2018, and other similarly horrific incidents.
