MOTION TO ADOPT budget Resolution No. 2018-246 within the General Fund to appropriate revenue in the amount of $500,000 from the State of Florida Department of Health to provide funding for Broward County’s mosquito control efforts to mitigate the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.

VOTE: 6-0.  Commissioners Geller, Holness and Sharief were not present.

Board of County Commissioners’ approval is required to appropriate revenue.

Recognizes funding provided by the Florida Department of Health to supplement the cost of Broward County’s mosquito control efforts to mitigate the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/HIGHWAY AND BRIDGE MAINTENANCE DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.

Broward County staff continue to work in close coordination with the Florida Department of Health in all of Broward County’s mosquito control activities. The Florida Department of Health has made funding available to Florida counties to supplement the cost of local mosquito control efforts to mitigate the spread of mosquito-borne diseases, specifically the Zika virus. Florida Department of Health recently notified Broward County that it has provided funding in the amount of $500,000 which must be expended by June 30, 2018. Approval of the budget Resolution will allow County staff to utilize the funding for mosquito control efforts prior to June 30, 2018.
