Summary Explanation/Background

THE FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT, THE ACCOUNTING DIVISION, AVIATION DEPARTMENT, AND THE LIBRARIES DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

Motion A
In accordance with the procedures outlined in Volume 1 of the Administrative Code, Chapter 3, Part II, Section 3.10 – Travel, attached is travel request for the Libraries Division (Exhibits 1 and 2).

The Libraries Division is requesting approval for eleven staff to travel to the American Library Association Conference and Exhibition (ALA Conference) in New Orleans, Louisiana, June 22 through June 26, 2018. The Libraries Division recognizes that the ALA Conference is an exceptional forum for professional development. The ALA Conference provides Libraries Division staff invaluable learning opportunities. Attendance will enable Libraries staff to enhance skills by networking and exchanging professional information with other public library professionals.

Motion B
In accordance with the procedures outlined in Volume 1 of the Administrative Code, Chapter 3, Part II, Section 3.10 – Travel, attached is travel request for the Aviation Department (Exhibits 3 and 4).

The Aviation Department is requesting approval for seven staff to travel to the 2018 Florida Airports Council (FAC Conference) in Tampa, Florida, July 15 through July 18, 2018. The FAC Conference is the largest and most successful statewide airport event with more than 700 industry professionals in attendance. Participation in the conference and in the committees will empower staff to learn and network with peers, industry leaders, and consultants on current trends and issues impacting the Aviation industry.

Fiscal Impact

Fiscal Impact/Cost Summary:

Motion A: For the Libraries Division, the total estimated travel cost is $20,295, of which $5,000 will be funded through donations made to the Broward County Library Trust Fund account and $15,295 will be funded by the County.

Motion B: For the Aviation Department, the total estimated travel cost of $7,700 is allocated in the Aviation Department Travel Operating Budget.
