Requested Action
MOTION TO ADOPT budget Resolution No. 2018-232 transferring funds within the Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF) for the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) in the amount of $292,980 for the purpose of providing funds for various organizations' crime prevention, safe neighborhood, and drug abuse education and prevention programs.

VOTE:  5-0. Commissioners LaMarca and Ryan were out of the room during the vote. Commissioner Rich abstained from voting.  Commissioner Sharief was not present.
Why Action is Necessary
Florida Statutes 932.7055(5)(a) requires that proceeds from the disposition of liens and forfeited property obtained from criminal procedure and corrections be deposited in a special law enforcement trust fund to be used for law enforcement purposes. Recommendation of the Sheriff and Board approval are necessary to appropriate LETF funds.

Fiscal Impact/Cost Summary:
Funds are available within the Law Enforcement Trust Fund for this action. According to BSO, the current balance of the LETF, as of April 25, 2018 is $3,675,553 in the local account ($2,433,941 of which is unrestricted) and $5,167,202 in the federal account ($2,221,773 of which is unrestricted). This action will utilize $292,980 in unrestricted local funds.
