Section 20.28 of Part IV of the Broward County Administrative Code permits Commissioners to approve travel expenses for staff, provided that the expenses are paid from the Commissioners’ office budget, travel expenses do not exceed $1,000, and the travel does not exceed three days in duration. In this case, however, the travel and amount exceed what is permissible for District Commissioner approval and must be approved by the County Commission.
On September 26, 2017, the County Commission approved a Resolution endorsing the candidacy of Commissioner Sharief to be the 2nd Vice President of the National Association of Counties (NACo). As passed, the Resolution also authorized the use of personnel and other resources as deemed necessary to support the Commissioner’s candidacy (Agenda Item 18).
Commission District 8 aide will be attending the following conferences to assist the Commissioner and Intergovernmental Affairs staff with campaign duties, as necessary:
- May 22-25, 2018 - Western Interstate Regional (WIR) Conference, Sun Valley, Idaho.
- July 12-17, 2018 - NACo Annual Conference, Nashville, TN (Davidson County).
