Summary Explanation/Background
THE OFFICE OF MEDICAL EXAMINER AND TRAUMA SERVICES RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.

Chapter 3½ of the Broward County Code of Ordinances identifies the process to which every person, firm, corporation, or association must adhere that provides or wishes to provide Nonemergency Medical Transportation Services within Broward County, Florida. Nonemergency Medical Transportation Service (NEMTS) means any service that uses vehicles designed to transport persons confined to wheelchairs or stretchers whose condition is such that these persons do not need, nor are likely to need, medical attention during transport.

The Trauma Management Agency, a subsection of the Office of Medical Examiner and Trauma Services, acts as the designee of the County Administrator for the purpose of reviewing and processing of applications for Nonemergency Medical Transportation Services Licenses. The application process and monitoring of licensed agencies are promulgated through the rules and regulations set forth in Chapter 3½ of the Broward County Code and Chapter 33 of the Broward County Administrative Code. The full application, including exhibits, is maintained by the Trauma Management Agency. Each license issued by the Board of County Commissioners is valid for two years.

The Trauma Management Agency has received and reviewed the application from Ready To Transport, Inc for a new license to provide Nonemergency Medical Transportation Services (NEMTS) within Broward County. Pursuant to Chapter 3½, Section 8(e), of the Broward County Code, the EMS Review Committee of the Broward Regional EMS Council reviewed the above application on March 1, 2018, and recommended approval and issuance of said license to Ready To Transport, Inc, contingent upon the respective provider completing the requirements identified in the Broward County Code of Ordinances.

If the Board of County Commissioners approves the above applicant to receive a license, the Trauma Management Agency will conduct a review of the applicant for the remaining requirements (i.e., vehicle and personnel inspections, business office in Broward County, adequate insurance) pursuant to Chapter 3½ for compliance with County rules and regulations relating to nonemergency medical transportation.
