THE FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE RISK MANAGEMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
On July 28, 2015, the claimant, a former bus operator, sustained an injury during the course and scope of employment with the Broward County Transit Division. The claimant alleged injuries to the lower back and neck caused by a motor vehicle accident. Due to the injury suffered from this accident, the claimant was terminated on August 8, 2017.
Through negotiations with the claimant, a settlement was reached in the total amount of $150,000. This amount is broken down as follows: (1) The claimant will receive $132,690, plus $500 for a Release and Resignation Agreement; and (2) the claimant’s attorney will receive $16,450 for fees and $360 for costs. The settlement includes all future indemnity benefits.
Please note, the Concurrence Memorandum was signed by the Office of the County Attorney on February 6, 2018, which is within the 90-day period between settlement and concurrence, as requested by the Board. |
