Summary Explanation/Background
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL

Andrews Avenue from Oakland Park Boulevard to Prospect Road is a County Road in the City of Oakland Park. The City desires to undertake a project to improve this road at no cost to the County. The project includes installation of landscaped and irrigated medians; dedicated left turn lanes at NE/NW 33rd Street, NW 35th Street, NW 36th Street and NE/NW 38th Street; complete road restoration including thermoplastic pavement markings and signage; stamped asphalt crosswalks at NE/NW 38th Street and NE/NW 41st Street; four-foot wide bike lanes with green thermoplastic pavement markings; mid-block pedestrian crossing at NE 39th Street; and upgrading of all existing lights to LED lighting. The landscaping improvements shall incorporate a minimum 50% native species by plant types and shall follow the Broward County NatureScape program and Florida-Friendly Landscaping principles.

Approval of the agreement will allow the City to undertake the improvements project. Upon project completion, the City will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of the landscaping and irrigation improvements, and the installed lighting system, including all utility costs.

The agreement has been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney and the Risk Management Division.
