A. The Broward Sheriff's Office supports this LETF request for the 33rd National Conference on Preventing Crime in the Black Community. This conference is a collaborative effort sponsored by Florida's Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and will be held in Jacksonville, Florida on May 30 through June 1, 2018. The focal points of the conference include presentations by national and state leaders, motivational speakers, workshops on notable efforts to curb drug abuse and youth violence, community crime prevention, and program models that are transferable to other communities. The contribution of $5,000 will be used to cover General Conference or Keynote Speaker and Scholarships for ten adults (includes two luncheons per scholarship).
B. The Broward Sheriff's Office supports this LETF request for the Dillard High School Marching Band. The Dillard High School Marching Band program provides services to approximately 200 children each year. It not only focuses on music but also assists and targets at-risk youth with educational needs. The concentrate on a positive educational progression, and on the Good Character and Citizenship program which works with children on how to become positive productive members of the community. The positive environment that the Dillard High School Marching Band program provides helps to create long standing values which are conducive to reducing future involvement with the Criminal Justice system.
C. The Broward Sheriff's Office supports this LETF request for the Baby Otter Scholarship and Education Fund, Inc. The Baby Otter Scholarship and Education Fund is a comprehensive program that addresses the child, the parent and the home thereby creating a safer family, safer home and safer neighborhoods. In addition to learning lifesaving skills, Baby Otter also teaches self-confidence and respect for oneself and others while attending the program. Swimming can be both therapeutic and soothing to students, which can carry over into student's day to day life and decrease social stressors. |
