Summary Explanation/Background
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL

Miramar Parkway from SW 68th Avenue to SW 64th Avenue is a County road located in the City of Miramar. The County and City have worked in conjunction on a project to improve this road segment. On December 12, 2017 (Item No. 8), the Board of County Commissioners approved an agreement between Broward County and the City of Miramar for improvements to the segment, at a maximum cost of $197,736 to the County. The agreement authorized the City to install improvements including median modifications; four-foot bicycle lanes; new sidewalk; curb and gutter; guardrail; milling and resurfacing; and signage and pavement markings. The City now desires to include landscaping, irrigation, and pedestrian lighting in the project.

Approval of Motions A and B will allow the City to undertake landscaping, irrigation, and pedestrian lighting improvements at no cost to the County. The landscaping improvements shall incorporate a minimum 50% native species by plant types and shall follow the Broward County NatureScape program and Florida-Friendly Landscaping principles. The lighting will include two pedestrian light poles on Miramar Parkway at SW 67th Avenue. Upon completion, the City will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of the landscaping and irrigation improvements, and the installed lighting system, including all utility costs.

The agreements have been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney and the Risk Management Division.
