Summary Explanation/Background
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.

This item supports the Board of County Commissioners' Value of "cooperatively delivering an efficient and accessible regional intermodal transportation network" with the Goal of supporting "the development, design and construction of sustainable, multi-modal transportation facilities throughout the County, to meet the demands of residents, travelers, and businesses."

Miramar Parkway from Southwest 68 Avenue to Southwest 64 Avenue is a County road within the City of Miramar. The City is improving this road segment and, during the design, the City’s consultant determined that traffic safety could be enhanced by including additional improvements. County staff agrees with this determination and seeks to include them into the City’s project. The improvements consist of median modifications; four-foot wide bicycle lanes; new sidewalk; curb and gutter; guardrail; milling and re-surfacing; and signage and pavement markings.

Under the agreement, the City will be responsible for the design, construction and inspection of the improvements and the County will reimburse the City up to a maximum amount of $197,736 for the work. Upon project completion, the County will continue to maintain the road and its improvements.

This agreement has been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney and the Risk Management Division.
