MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution No. 2017-550 of the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida, accepting a donation of a replacement playground shade cover from South Broward Hospital District D/B/A Memorial Healthcare System (“Memorial”), valued at $500 or more, for the use and benefit of the Parks and Recreation Division at Plantation Heritage Park (“Park”), contingent upon execution of an Agreement between Broward County and Memorial relating to the installation of such shade cover at the Park; authorizing the County Administrator to take all administrative and budgetary actions required to implement acceptance; and providing for severability and an effective date. (Commission District 1)

Section 18.63 of the Broward County Administrative Code provides that donations valued at $500 or more shall be accepted by Resolution of the Board of County Commissioners.

Authorizes acceptance of a donation of a replacement playground shade cover, for installation of such shade cover by Memorial, for the use and benefit of the Parks and Recreation Division at Plantation Heritage Park, contingent upon execution of an Agreement between Broward County and Memorial relating to the installation of the shade cover; authorizes the County Administrator to execute the Agreement.

PARKS AND RECREATION DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

This item supports the Broward County Board of County Commissioner's (Board) value of cultivating community culture, arts, recreation, and life-long learning, and its related goal of coordinating with community partners to market and deliver world-class recreational opportunities. By accepting Memorial’s donation of a replacement shade cover for the west playground area, Park guests will have the opportunity to utilize playground equipment in the shade, increasing the level of enjoyment of this amenity.

In accordance with Section 18.63, Broward County Administrative Code, the Parks and Recreation Division (Division) recommends the Board accept a donation from Memorial of a replacement shade cover and installation of such equipment by Memorial, valued at $500 or more, for the use and benefit at Plantation Heritage Park, as part of Memorial’s commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. The donation is contingent upon the County and Memorial executing an Agreement setting forth each party’s obligations relating to the installation of such shade cover.

The adoption of the Resolution (Exhibit 1) authorizes Broward County to accept this donation as requested by the donating organization (Exhibit 2).
