THE OFFICE OF MEDICAL EXAMINER AND TRAUMA SERVICES RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.
The initial Broward County Trauma Plan was approved in May 1992 and has been subsequently updated, the latest being in October 2012. Since that time, the Trauma Management Agency, a subsection of the Office of Medical Examiner and Trauma Services, has continued to work closely with the 16 Hospitals which includes three Trauma Centers, and 19 licensed Advanced Life Support services to prevent and reduce trauma-related injuries/deaths for the residents and visitors of Broward County.
The Trauma Plan identifies certain criteria required for a trauma agency as well as for the providers of trauma services within the Broward County Trauma System. As medical care changes and improves with advances in the provision of trauma care, so must the plan. The Trauma Plan is reviewed annually by local providers of trauma care in Broward County, to allow its contents remain current with the changing trends in trauma patient care.
Rules 64J-2.009, Trauma Agency Implementation and Operation Requirements, Florida Administrative Code provides that any county that wishes to implement and maintain a trauma agency must complete a plan and update that plan every five years and a Public Hearing must be held to provide documentation that the Board endorsed the initial plan or plan updates. Once approved by the Board, the 2017-2022 Broward County Trauma Plan will be forwarded to the Florida Department of Health, Division of Emergency Preparedness and Community Support, Office of Trauma.
