Broward County is a partner county in the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact (Compact). Each year the Compact organizes an annual Summit, with hosting responsibilities that are rotated among the partner counties. Broward County is now serving as primary organizer and host of the 9th Annual Compact Summit at the Broward County Convention Center, through the Environmental Planning and Community Resilience Division. Summit expenses will met through a combination of dedicated sponsorships and event registration. Staff has utilized the County's Advantage Marketing Program to solicit sponsors for this event. Revenues collected will be used to meet 2017 expenses with any excess funds to be reserved for future Compact initiatives and Summit expenditures.

Estimated costs for the 2017 Summit include catering, audio-visual services, electrical services, promotional materials, printing, security and other miscellaneous costs, estimated at $102,500 for 500 attendees although capacity can be expanded to 600+ should demands warrant. To date, staff has secured $121,550 in initial sponsorship commitments, with $43,300 collected to date. The division has also collected $28,445 in registration fees.  In order to meet short-term Summit expenses it is necessary for the Division to recognize revenues collected to date in the amount of $71,745, with the remaining revenues to be recognized at a later date.

Background
The First Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit was hosted by Broward County in October 2009. This event led to the adoption of the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact by Broward, Palm Beach, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties in January 2010, a joint commitment to collaborate regionally in climate mitigation and adaptation planning. Compact commitments have included the creation of a Regional Climate Action Plan and the annual convening of a Regional Climate Leadership Summit to maintain collaborations, assess progress, and coordinate future actions. Broward County also hosted the 5th Annual Summit in November 2013. Now in the 9th year of Compact implementation, Broward County is preparing to host the 9th Annual Summit on December 14 -15, 2017, in collaboration with our Compact partners.
