A. The Broward Sheriff's Office supports this LETF request for the Money Laundering Task Force (MLTF). In the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) BSO is the designated administrator of the MLTF which is composed of BSO, federal agencies, and many of the city police agencies in Broward County. Twenty percent (20%) of funds forfeited, as a result of the MLTF investigations, (both state and federal) are earmarked for MLTF operations so that the project is self-sustaining. The remaining 80% of the funds are distributed to the agencies that participated. The budget for the Money Laundering Task Force is funded 97% with local LETF funds and 3% with federal LETF funds.
B. The Broward Sheriff's Office supports this LETF request for the purchase of two Polaris Ranger 1000 XP Crew, four wheel drive Airport Utility Vehicles. These vehicles will be used to transport Incident Containment Team (ICT) members and their equipment when deployed to incidents such as killer/shooter, bomb threats/explosions, mass casualty incidents, and terrorist acts throughout the airport. The budget for this request is funded with local LETF funds.
C. The Broward Sheriff's Office supports this LETF request for the operations of the Broward County Drug Task Force (BCDTF). The Task Force targets criminal organizations committing illegal acts, makes arrests, and seizes assets associated with their criminal activity. The Task Force MOU stipulated that 20% of the assets seized is returned to the task force to cover operational and administrative costs. The budget for the Broward County Drug Task Force is funded 36% with local LETF funds and 64% with federal LETF funds.
D. The Broward Sheriff's Office administers the Narcotics Interdiction Task Force account for the members of the Task Force. This agreement has been in place as a result of the MOU, which BSO is an active member along with the other cities that participate. The Task Force MOU stipulates that 20% of the assets seized is returned to the Task Force for operational and administrative costs. Because this is a tenured Task Force there are many seizures, both state and federal, that are pending forfeiture. The Task Force targets criminal organizations committing criminal acts and makes arrests and seizes assets associated with their criminal activity. The budget for the Narcotics Interdiction Task force is funded 77% with local LETF funds and 23% with federal LETF funds.
E. The Broward Sheriff's Office supports this LETF request for the Workers Compensation Fraud Task Force (WCFTF). BSO administers the Workers Compensation Fraud Task Force account for the members of the Task Force. This Agreement has been in place as a result of the MOU, which BSO is an active member, along with the Miami-Dade Police Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. The Task Force MOU stipulates that 20% of the assets seized are returned to the Task Force to cover operational and administrative costs. This Task Force was created in an effort to coordinate resources for the purpose of investigating and prosecuting incidents of Workers Compensation Fraud in Broward County and elsewhere. Workers Compensation Fraud cases are long term, complex investigations that require significant resources and time to develop a case for prosecution. The budget for the Workers Compensation Fraud Task Force is funded with local LETF funds.
F. The Broward Sheriff's Office supports this LETF request for the Organized Crime Activities Section Task Force (OCAS). The OCAS Task Force identifies and targets for prosecution individuals and groups involved in organized crime activity in the South Florida area. In addition, the Task Force also seizes currency and assets associated with the organization's criminal activity. The budget for the Organized Crime Activities Section Task Force is funded 69% with local LETF funds and 31% with federal LETF funds.
