Summary Explanation/Background
THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND GROWTH MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE ANIMAL CARE AND ADOPTION DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTIONS.

On February 14, 2012, the Board approved a Grant Agreement with PetSmart Charities, Inc. (“PetSmart”), of Phoenix, Arizona, that provided for the award of monies to Broward County from time to time through a Grant Statement to be executed by the parties. Pursuant to the Grant Agreement, PetSmart Charities, Inc. has offered to enter into a Grant Statement and thereby award $25,000 to Broward County to be used for immediate sheltering supplies, medical needs, and food for community pets and shelter pets impacted by natural disasters, and supported by the Broward County Animal Care and Adoption Division. These items will support the Division’s animal sheltering and ESF No. 17 Veterinary Concerns emergency response activities. It is noted that this grant does not require a County match.

Broward County has been working successfully with PetSmart Charities, Inc. since January 2010, and staff believes accepting this grant will allow the Division to continue providing important services, and recommends the Board approve this request to ensure that the valuable partnership with PetSmart Charities, Inc. continues..

The County Attorney’s Office has approved the Grant Statement as to form.
