MOTION TO APPROVE settlement, including costs and attorney's fees, in the case of Solano v. Broward County, 17th Judicial Circuit Court Case No. 15-018404 (14).

ACTION:  (T-10:21 AM)  Approved.

VOTE: 7-0.  Mayor Sharief was not present during the vote.  Commissioner Bogen was not present.

VOTE: 8-0.

Board approval is necessary to resolve this pending lawsuit.

Settlement of pending litigation.

On the morning of June 11, 2014, Plaintiff Pablo Solano was the driver of a vehicle stopped in traffic on East Hallandale Beach Boulevard, within the City of Hallandale Beach, Florida, when, it is alleged, a Broward County transit bus struck the left rear portion of his vehicle. As a result, the Plaintiff alleges injuries to his neck and back, as well as nerve damage to his right wrist and elbow.

To date, the Plaintiff has incurred approximately $33,175 in medical expenses. At the July 26, 2017, court ordered mediation, the Plaintiff agreed to accept, subject to Board approval, the total sum of $52,500 to settle all claims in this case, inclusive of attorney's fees and costs. The Plaintiff has signed a Complete Settlement and Release.

The Risk Management Division concurs with and recommends approval of this settlement.
