Broward County Commission Regular Meeting

MOTION TO ADOPT budget Resolution No. 2017-457 within the General Fund to appropriate revenue in the amount of $500,000 from the State of Florida Department of Health to provide funding for Broward County’s mosquito control efforts to mitigate the spread of the Zika virus.

VOTE: 6-0.  Commissioner LaMarca and Mayor Sharief were not present during the vote.  Commissioner Ryan was not present. 

Board of County Commissioners’ approval is required to appropriate revenue.

Recognizes funding provided by the Florida Department of Health to supplement the cost of Broward County’s mosquito control efforts to reduce the spread of the Zika virus.

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/HIGHWAY AND BRIDGE MAINTENANCE DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.

 

Broward County Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division works in close coordination with the Florida Department of Health in all of Broward County’s mosquito control activities. The Florida Department of Health has made funding available to Florida counties to supplement the cost of local mosquito control efforts in response to the threat of the Zika virus. County staff submitted a request for funds to supplement the cost of chemicals for mosquito control activities. The Florida Department of Health recently notified the County that they have agreed to provide Broward County with funding in the amount of $500,000 which must be expended by September 30, 2017. Approval of the budget Resolution will allow County staff to utilize the funding for mosquito control efforts prior to September 30, 2017.
