Summary Explanation/Background
On June 15, 2017, Mayor Barbara Sharief notified (Exhibit 2) the Executive Director of the Florida Association Counties (FAC) of her intent to seek the office of Second Vice-President of the National Association of Counties (NACo), and requested FAC’s support, endorsement, and assistance.

To provide support to a Florida candidate seeking a NACo office, FAC policy requires the Commissioner’s home county to pass a resolution reflecting its support for, and endorsement of, the County Commissioner’s candidacy for NACo office. The proposed Resolution (Exhibit 1) reflects the required support and endorsement. FAC’s Board of Directors and Membership may approve the support and endorsement of a Florida County Commissioner seeking a NACo office at any Legislative Conference. FAC’s annual Legislative Conference is scheduled to be held on November 15-17, 2017 in Sarasota County, FL.

Qualifying period for NACo’s Office of Second Vice-President opens October 1, 2017 and ends on January 31, 2018. The election will take place at NACo’s 83rd Annual Conference and Exposition to be held on July 13-16, 2018, in Davidson County (Nashville), Tennessee.
