Summary Explanation/Background
PARKS AND RECREATION DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

This item supports the Board of County Commissioners’ (“Board”) value of cultivating community culture, arts, recreation and life-long learning and the associated goal to deliver world-class recreational opportunities in coordination with our community partners. The Dero Bicycle Fixit Station being donated by our community partner FLIPANY and the implementation of FLIPANY’s “Keep it Rolling” initiative will enhance the ability of members of the community to participate in recreational activities and a healthy, active lifestyle by encouraging bicycling for active transport and leisure physical activity, and by providing educational opportunities in basic bicycle repair and maintenance.

This item relates to activities in the Broward Municipal Services District, which consists of 11.4 square miles with an estimated population of 14,759. The Board of County Commissioners is the governing body of the BMSD and the provider of its municipal services that include, but are not limited to: business development, building permitting and housing development, libraries and parks facilities, roadway maintenance, street enhancements, and zoning and code enforcement.

Parks and Recreation Division recommends acceptance of the donation of a Dero Bicycle Fixit Station valued at five hundred dollars ($500) or more from FLIPANY for the use and benefit of the Parks and Recreation Division at Roosevelt Gardens Park. FLIPANY will provide park staff and members of the community with technical assistance and instruction as to maintenance requirements of the Dero Bicycle Fixit Station. FLIPANY will also provide training to members of the community on how to repair their own bicycles using the Dero Bicycle Fixit Station tools. This is FLIPANY’s third donation of a Dero Bicycle Fixit Station to the County.

The adoption of the Resolution (Exhibit 1) authorizes Broward County to accept this donation as requested by the donating organization (Exhibit 2).
