MOTION TO APPROVE County sponsorship of the United Negro College Fund South Florida Governor's Luncheon ("UNCF Luncheon") to enable County staff and resources to be used to solicit charitable contributions. (Commissioner Holness)

Approval from the Board is necessary to allow County staff to solicit contributions for the UNCF Luncheon and to authorize a letter on County letterhead to encourage attendance.

Enables County staff to assist with the UNCF Luncheon charitable solicitation activities, and allows a fundraising letter to be sent on County letterhead.

Pursuant to Sections 1-19(c)(5)(a)3 and (a)4, Broward County Code of Ordinances, an elected official may not use the "staff or other resources of his or her governmental entity in the solicitation of charitable contributions" unless the charity or fundraising event is sponsored by the elected official's governmental entity. By approving County sponsorship of the UNCF Luncheon, District 9 staff will be permitted to engage in charitable fundraising activities in support of the UNCF Luncheon and use County resources incident thereto. Such sponsorship would also enable a fundraising letter to be sent on County letterhead.

Last year, the Board approved Broward County sponsorship of the 2016 UNCF Luncheon.
