MOTION TO ADOPT budget Resolution No. 2017-386 within the Law Enforcement Trust Fund for the Broward Sheriff's Office in the amount of $189,924 for the purpose of providing funds to various organizations' crime prevention, safe neighborhood, and drug abuse education and prevention programs.

Why Action is Necessary
Florida Statutes 932.7055(4) requires that proceeds from the disposition of liens and forfeited property obtained from criminal procedure and corrections be deposited in a special law enforcement trust fund to be used for law enforcement purposes. Recommendation of the Sheriff and Board approval are necessary to appropriate LETF funds.
What Action Accomplishes
Provides LETF funding in the amount of $189,924 for various organizations' crime prevention, safe neighborhood, and drug abuse education and prevention programs.

Funds are available within the Law Enforcement Trust Fund for this action. According to BSO, the current balance of the LETF, as of August 4, 2017 is $4,263,553 in the local account ($3,085,197 of which is unrestricted) and $5,892,934 in the federal account ($3,048,729 of which is unrestricted). This action will utilize $189,924 in local unrestricted funds.
