Requested Action

MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution No. 2017-406 of the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County, Florida, accepting a donation of $530 from Southern Gas Association and AMEC Foster Wheeler to be deposited in The Friends of the Parks and Recreation Division Trust Fund to augment educational amenities provided by the Parks and Recreation Division; authorizing the County Administrator to take all administrative and budgetary actions required to implement acceptance; and providing for severability and an effective date. (Commission District 7)

Why Action is Necessary

Section 18.63 of the Broward County Administrative Code states that donations of $500 or more shall be accepted by a Resolution of the Board of County Commissioners.

Summary Explanation/Background
PARKS AND RECREATION DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
 
This item supports the Broward County Board of County Commissioners' value of cultivating community culture, arts, recreation and life-long learning, and the associated goals to provide diverse artistic, cultural, educational, and historical amenities and programs that contribute to a vibrant, multi-cultural and economically-viable community.
 
A tour group including individuals from Southern Gas Association and AMEC Foster Wheeler visited Secret Woods Nature Center in June 2017. A group representative presented a check to a Parks and Recreation Division ("Division") staff person for $620, of which $90 paid for the cost of the nature program attended by the group and $530 represented a donation. The donated funds will be used to augment educational amenities provided by the Division.
 
The adoption of the Resolution (Exhibit 1) authorizes Broward County to accept this donation in support of the Division, as requested by the donating organization (Exhibit 2).
