The National Association of Counties' (NACo) 82nd Annual Conference will take place July 21-24, 2017, in Franklin County, Ohio. Broward County has approximately 70 votes which may be cast in NACo leadership elections, or regarding NACo platform changes and policy Resolutions, if any, during the annual business meeting on Monday, July 24, 2017.
To exercise these votes, Broward County must submit a completed voting credentials form to NACo by July 7, 2017. The voting delegate (or alternate) must be a paid registrant to the conference. Mayor Sharief and Commissioner LaMarca are registered to attend the annual conference. Designation of a voting delegate (or the alternate in the voting delegate’s absence) allows the person to pick up the County's ballot and to cast all eligible votes in NACo elections or on the platform changes and policy Resolutions presented to the general membership at the annual business meeting.
Voting is achieved by state. Traditionally, Florida votes as a unit and the Florida Association of Counties holds a caucus meeting at the conference for all attending county delegates to discuss support of candidates, and policy or platform positions, if necessary. This year’s caucus meeting will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017. There’s only one declared candidate for 2nd Vice-President and other NACo officer positions are not contested. Changes to NACo’s American County Platform and policy Resolutions will be adopted through the organization’s Board of Directors, and its various governance, policy, and steering committees, subject to approval by the general membership at the annual business meeting.
The 2017 NACo voting credentials packet is attached as Exhibit 1.
