Last week's announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump that the United States of America would withdraw from the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to two degrees Celsius over preindustrial levels has been met with widespread opposition among many political figures of both major parties, dozens of leaders of major US and international corporations, virtually all environmental advocacy organizations, and many state and local governments. This resolution puts Broward County on record as opposing withdrawal by the United States of America from the Paris Agreement, while reiterating Broward County's support for the following:
- Broward County's previous commitments to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions from County operations and Countywide by at least eighty percent (80%) below 2010 levels by 2050. Closer collaboration with the County's partners in the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact.
- Acceleration of efforts to deploy clean energy resources and transition to a clean energy economy.
- Evaluation by staff of regional and international alliances promoting climate action consistent with the Paris Agreement and presentation of recommendations for County participation in such alliances to the Board for consideration.
