Summary Explanation/Background
THE FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT, THE ACCOUNTING DIVISION, AND THE PARKS AND RECREATION DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

In accordance with the procedures outlined in Volume 1 of the Administrative Code, Chapter 3, Part II, Section 3.10 – Travel, attached is a request for 18 Parks and Recreation Division staff to attend the annual Florida Recreation and Park Association (FRPA) conference in Orlando from August 28 - 31, 2017.

The division recognizes that the FRPA 2017 Annual Conference provides staff invaluable learning opportunities, is an exceptional forum to support professional development, networking, and to gain knowledge of industry resources. To best equip the future leaders of our division, 18 participants are receiving support for registration costs only to support their professional development objectives, career enhancement goals and to fulfill their Continuing Education Unit requirements to maintain their professional certification. The decision of who to sponsor was based on previous conference attendance and the division’s management succession plans.

The division benefits from staff who are committed to the ideals of this professional organization and the certification associated with it. Training sessions include designing parks for sustainability and resiliency, bridging the gaps between multiple generations, strategic financial and operational management, improving communications, diversity in leadership, aquatics management, active shooter training, inclusive fitness, and other crucial topics. Keeping up with this level of industry professionalism is critical to the division's accreditation with the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies.
