THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/WATER AND WASTEWATER SERVICES RECOMMENDS APPROVAL
This item supports the Board of County Commissioners’ value of encouraging investments in renewable energy, sustainable practices and environmental protection with the goal to “Increase water quality protection efforts and lead creative approaches to water storage and aquifer recharge, as well as diversification of water supplies, regionally.”
On February 9, 2016 (Item No. 39), the Board of County Commissioners approved a 30-year agreement between Broward County and Palm Beach County to provide wholesale reclaimed water to Palm Beach County. Palm Beach County has decided to start construction in the western half of their service area (near Osprey Pointe Golf Course) since this area has the highest demand for reclaimed water. To facilitate serving this area, and to enhance reclaimed flow, Palm Beach County has requested a second point of connection to the Broward County system. This point of connection is located one mile east of University drive on Lox Road. This additional point of connection is shown in Exhibits C and D. There are several modifications to the definitions, provisions of Article 6 and Article 8 to reflect that there will now be two points of connections for this agreement.
Additionally, Broward County staff has cooperatively worked with Palm Beach County to request modifications in the water sampling requirements. These modifications change sampling frequency to better reflect industry standards. This amendment to the agreement modifies the original agreement to incorporate these changes.
The First Amendment to the agreement has been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney. |
